How to Store Vinyl Records the Right Way

Posted by EFGRE Records on May 18th 2026

A record that is stored well can outlive its owner. A record stored badly can warp in one summer. Here is the short version of doing it right.

Keep them vertical

Always store LPs upright, like books. Stacking records flat puts weight on the grooves and warps the vinyl over time. Use a sturdy crate or shelf — our oak storage crate holds about 80 LPs without sagging.

Mind the climate

Vinyl hates heat and direct sunlight. Aim for a cool, dry room away from radiators and windows. Attics and car trunks are where records go to die.

Sleeve everything

Paper inner sleeves scratch over the years. Anti-static poly-lined sleeves cost about a dollar each and protect the surface every time you slide the record in and out.

Store your collection right and it will sound as good in thirty years as it does tonight.
